Talk series on leadership and performance

At Everest Engineering College, we believe that true education goes beyond classrooms and textbooks. Continuing our mission to develop visionary professionals, we hosted an impactful session under our Talk Series on Leadership and Performance. The featured speaker for this event was none other than Er. Dr. Dipak Prasad Bastola, a distinguished aeronautical engineer with global experience—including his time at Airbus in France, where he worked with professionals from 86 different countries.

We were also honored by the presence of our esteemed Principal, Prof. Dr. Hari Krishna Shrestha, whose support and encouragement continue to elevate the academic environment of EEC.

This session provided students and faculty with invaluable insights on leadership, global thinking, and personal growth.

🔹 A New Concept of Management

Dr. Bastola introduced a modern and practical approach to management—centered on adaptability, emotional intelligence, and people-focused strategies.

"Be a leader or a follower—not a position holder," he stated. Leadership is about responsibility, vision, and influence, not about the title on your office door.

🔹 Global Perspective & Cultural Adaptability

Drawing from his Airbus experience, he shared the U-curve and five phases of cultural shock, helping students understand how people adapt when entering new cultural and professional environments.

🔹 The Leadership Triangle

One of the central models discussed was the Leadership Triangle, emphasizing the balance between vision, influence, and execution—key traits of successful leaders.

🔹 Leadership Power and Influence Tactics

Dr. Bastola explained different types of leadership power—such as expert, referent, reward, coercive, and legitimate—and paired them with effective influence tactics used by strong leaders.

🔹 The Counter Culture Idea

He spoke about the power of counter culture—encouraging students to challenge the status quo and become change-makers from within their organizations or teams.

🔹 The Deerwalk Principle

An intriguing metaphor introduced was the Deerwalk Principle, symbolizing quiet, visionary leadership that leaves a lasting path for others to follow.

🔹 Leadership and Performance Connection

The link between leadership and team performance was discussed in detail, backed by real-life examples that made the concept highly relatable for students.

🔹 Timeless Motivation

Citing Winston Churchill’s iconic line:

> "Never, never, never give up."

Dr. Bastola emphasized resilience, a key quality for any aspiring leader.

🔹 A Practical Formula for Happiness

He concluded with a thought-provoking formula:

> Happiness = Number of Desires Fulfilled / Number of Desires Entertained

A reminder for students to focus on meaningful goals and inner fulfillment.
